TANGA: THE Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) in Tanga region has surpassed its five-month tax collection target for the year 2024/2025 by 21.95bn/-, achieving a cumulative performance of 117 per cent for the period.
Speaking in Tanga on Friday, TRA Regional Manager, Thomas Masese said that the authority had initially set a target to collect 131.69bn/- from July to November this year but managed to collect 153.65bn/- by the end of the targeted period.
“This is an excellent performance, demonstrating increased tax compliance driven by new methods that foster closer partnerships between taxpayers and the TRA,” Masese said.
The remarks were made at the launch of the Taxpayers’ Month, an event held at the TRA office aimed at strengthening engagement with taxpayers. The event included discussions with taxpayers and the presentation of awards to recognise outstanding compliance.

Breaking down the figure, the manager said that of the total collected revenue from customs exceeded its target during the period by 117 per cent from 101.8bn/- to 119.5/- while for internal source the target exceeded by 114 per cent from 29.8bn/- to 34bn/- during the five-month period.
Comparing tax collection trends for the past years, Masese reported that cumulative reports for the same period show that the office reached an 89 per cent performance collecting 78bn/- out of target of 88bn/- for the period in the year 2023/2024.
The Finance Manager of one of the prominent taxpayers visited and awarded by the TRA, Mr Juma Abdallah said that tax payers have seen positive transformation of the way TRA is approaching tax collection in recent years, saying that such changes would lead to even greater compliance.

“I plead for continued cooperation between taxpayers and the authority for the good if the country. TRA is not what it used to be some five, six years ago.
Continue with this spirit so that people pay taxes voluntarily,” Mr Abdallah said.
Neelkanth Lime company Manager underscored the importance of paying taxes for the development of the country. “We are growing globally. I appeal to other companies to pay so that we grow together,” he said.
