TPDF guarantees peace, security ahead of polls

DODOMA: THE Tanzania People’s Defence Forces (TPDF) yesterday assured Tanzanians of continued peace, security and stability before, during and after the General Election.

In a statement issued by the Force’s Acting Director of Information and Public Relations, Colonel Bernard Mlunga, TPDF urged all political parties to continue upholding peace and stability throughout the campaign period, during voting and after the elections.

Col Mlunga said the TPDF was closely monitoring and assessing the security situation across the country ahead of the polls slated for October 28 and 29, 2025.

“The TPDF is satisfied with the prevailing peace and security in the country during this campaign period, as political parties are conducting their activities in accordance with legal requirements, mutual respect and tolerance, which is demonstrated by their candidates for the positions of President, Members of Parliament and Councillors,” he said.

The TPDF commended the Tanzania Police Force and other security organs for their continued efforts to maintaining peace and stability as the nation approaches the General Election.

Col Mlunga also applauded citizens for continuing to exercise their fundamental right to peacefully and calmly engage with the policies of various political parties through public rallies organised by election candidates at different levels.

According to TPDF spokesperson, the activities are a vital part of the democratic process aimed at electing leaders who will contribute to the nation’s development, the statement added.

However, despite the prevailing peace and stability, the TPDF urged the public to disregard messages from individuals posing as activists both locally and abroad who use social media platforms to spread misinformation and mislead the public.

“These individuals have posted inflammatory content attempting to link the Defence Forces to political matters, with the intent of disrupting public order,” reads part of the statement.

The TPDF urged the public to disregard such misleading posts and false information circulating online.

“Citizens are reminded that any official information regarding the Defence Forces will be communicated exclusively by the TPDF Headquarters through the official channels that connect the military and the public,” the statement insisted.
