TPDC cuts over 100,000 tonnes of carbon emissions

THE Tanzania Petroleum Development Corporation (TPDC) has recorded a significant milestone in environmental conservation by successfully reducing over 100,000 tonnes of carbon emissions through the use of clean energy for cooking and Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) for vehicles.
This achievement earned TPDC a prestigious environmental award at the ongoing 49th Dar es Salaam International Trade Fair (DITF), Sabasaba fair, in recognition of the corporation’s contribution to environmental protection and the fight against climate change.
TPDC’s Head of Communications, Ms Marie Msellemu, said yesterday shortly after receiving the award that the success reflects the corporation’s strong commitment to implementing its clean energy strategies effectively.
“Through the use of clean energy, we have been able to eliminate over 100,000 tonnes of carbon emissions. This is a major step in protecting our environment. We are proud to be part of the solution to climate change,” Ms Msellemu said.

Ms Msellemu, reaffirmed its commitment to working with stakeholders to ensure that clean energy becomes more accessible to Tanzanians, while continuing to protect the environment and support national efforts to combat climate change.
“Tanzania’s clean energy transition is not only vital for protecting forests but also for improving public health and building climate resilience. The time for action from all sectors is now,” Ms Msellemu said.
She further noted that TPDC has been a consistent participant in the Sabasaba exhibitions for several years and has regularly been recognised for the quality of its services and projects.
“This is our fifth award at this exhibition. For us, winning awards has become a norm due to the high standards in the execution of our projects, including today’s environmental award. As we know, the government’s strategy involves the use of clean energy,” she said.
The Sabasaba trade fair, held annually at the Mwalimu Julius Nyerere Fairgrounds in Dar es Salaam, brings together participants from various sectors within and outside the country to showcase products, services and technological innovations that foster economic and social development.
