Toddler killer suspects arraigned in Bukoba Court

BUKOBA, KAGERA: HUNDREDS of anxious people yesterday thronged the Kagera Resident Magistrate’s Court when nine suspects   were arraigned before the court charged with murder of a child with albinism, identified as Asiimwe Novarth, who was aged two and half years.

Security was very tight with armed detectives when the suspects arrived at the RMS court in a police van with registration number PT 3739   at around 11.30 a.m.

The Officer in-charge from the Director of Public Prosecution’s (DPP) Office, Waziri Magumbo who was assisted by State Attorney Erick Mabagara named   the accused persons before the fully packed courtroom as Elpidius Rwegoshora (49), as Assistant Parish Priest at Bugandika Parish, in Missenyi District.

Others are Novarth Venant (24) a boda boda rider who is the father of the deceased child, Nurdin Ahmada (25), Ramadhan Selestine (23) both residents of Kamachumu village, Rwenyagira Alphonce (30) and Dastan Burchard (47) both residents of Bushagara village.

Others were Faswiu Athuman (39), a witchdoctor resident of Nyakahama village, Gosbert Archard ((35) and Desidery  Everygist (53) both residents of  Nyakahama village, in Muleba District.

Mr Magumbo told the court that on May 30th, this year the accused jointly murdered a child with albinism, identified as Asiimwe Novarth, who was aged two and half years.

However, the accused were not asked to enter a plea as the murder case will be tried and heard by the High Court at a later date.

Resident Magistrate Elipokea Yona adjourned the Preliminary Inquiry Case No 1774/2024 until July 12, this year for another mention   and ordered the accused persons to be remanded in custody.

Police Spokesperson, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) David Misime on Wednesday explained that the incident happened on May 30, this year at Bulamula village in Kamachumu Ward when a group of people  abducted a child with albinism, Asiimwe Novarth.

According to DCP Misime, the decomposed body of the missing child was recovered on June 17, this year wrapped in a plastic bag dumped along Luhanga-Makongora road in Muleba District while some body parts were missing.
