TMF, NEMC to enhance environmental reporting

DAR ES SALAAM: The Tanzania Media Foundation (TMF) is partnering with the National Environment Management Council (NEMC) to boost media engagement of the latter’s zonal managers and executives as part of enhancing effective media communication strategies.

NEMC’s Director General Dr. Immaculate Semesi, said on Friday the partnership is vital in advancing environmental awareness through the media.

She emphasized the importance of equipping both media professionals and NEMC officers with the skills needed to communicate environmental issues effectively to the public.

“Strengthening our collaboration with TMF will help us build a more informed and engaged public on environmental matters,” Dr Semesi said. “This training is a key step toward achieving that goal.”

TMF Executive Director Mr. Dastan Kamanzi presented insights into TMF’s Collaborative Environmental Journalism Nurturing Program (CEJNP), a joint initiative with the Human Dignity and Environmental Care Foundation (HUDEFO). The program aims to develop a new generation of environmental journalists who can produce high-quality, impactful stories.

Irene John, NEMC Communication Manager, encouraged participants to implement the knowledge gained from the training in their daily work. “Effective media engagement is crucial for NEMC to fulfill its mandate,” she said. “We anticipate seeing tangible results in the coming weeks.”

This training session represents a pivotal moment in NEMC’s efforts to enhance public communication and foster a more informed and engaged citizenry.
