TMA’s update on Cyclone CHIDO

DAR ES SALAAM: Tanzania Meteorological Authority (TMA) has issued an update regarding the presence
of tropical cyclone named “CHIDO” in the Indian Ocean, north of Madagascar.

The analysis of weather systems indicates that the cyclone is expected to move towards northern Mozambique 13th to 16th of December, 2024).

Currently, the tropical cyclone is not expected to have direct impacts within the country.

However, due to its trajectory and the proximity of the areas where cyclone “CHIDO” track is anticipated (northern Mozambique) and the southern areas of our country, there is a low chance for occurrence of short periods of heavy rain accompanied by strong winds and
large ocean waves in Mtwara and surrounding areas, especially between the 14th and 16th of December 2024.

TMA has advised the public and Mariners in general to continue to make followups of latest weather forecasts and updates from Tanzania Meteorological Authority
as well as to seek advice and guidance from experts in the relevant sectors.

“The Tanzania Meteorological Authority continues to monitor the status and development of the tropical cyclone “CHIDO” and will provide updates whenever necessary and as
appropriate,” TMA Thursday’s added.
