TLGU unveils new-look national ladies golf team for EACAAC tourney

DAR ES SALAAM: TANZANIA’s top female golfers are gearing up for one of the most competitive regional golf tournaments as they prepare to represent the nation at the East and Central All Africa Challenge Trophy (EACAAC).

The prestigious biennial event is set to tee off from October 20th to 25th, 2025 at the Great Rift Valley Lodge & Golf Resort in Kenya.

The Tanzania Ladies Golf Union (TLGU) President Queen Siraki has unveiled a refreshed national team featuring a mix of experience and rising talent.

Siraki announced yesterday that the team will depart from Dar es Salaam on October 19th, 2025, under the leadership of team manager Yasmin Chali, who also serves as the TLGU honorary secretary.

The new-look team includes seasoned golfer Neema Olomi, who takes over as team captain, alongside returning national player Vicky Elias.

They will be joined by Shufaa Twalib, a rising star promoted from the national junior U-18 team and Khadija Suleiman, a top player from the Tanzania People’s Defence Forces (TPDF) golf team.

This year’s edition promises fierce competition and camaraderie among 12 participating nations including Burundi, Kenya, Malawi, Mauritius, Madagascar, Réunion, Rwanda, Seychelles, Uganda, Zambia, Tanzania and host nation Kenya.

For team Tanzania, the tournament offers not only international exposure but also an opportunity to inspire more young women to take up the sport across the country, according to Siraki.

TLGU has expressed strong confidence in the squad’s ability to compete at the highest level and defend Tanzania’s title with pride.

Tanzania’s victory in the 2023 edition, held at the Kigali Golf Resort & Villas in Rwanda, was a historic milestone.

The team clinched the title by a margin of seven strokes, finishing with a total of 689—six strokes better than their previous winning score in 2019 in Entebbe, Uganda.

That triumphant team was led by captain Hawa Wanyeche, along with Neema Olomi, Madina Iddi and Vicky Elias.

However, Wanyeche and Iddi, who have proudly flown Tanzania’s flag for over 15 years, will miss this year’s action.

The EACAAC tournament is sanctioned by the World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) and supported by The R&A, offering not just bragging rights but crucial international experience for Africa’s top amateur female golfers.
