TIRA targets to register more insurance companies

DAR ES SALAAM : TANZANIA Insurance Regulatory Authority (TIRA) is targeting to register more insurance agents to provide services and awareness to the citizens across the country on the importance of insurance services.
Speaking at the ongoing 48th Dar es Salaam International Trade Fair (DITF) in Dar es Salaam, TIRA Eastern Zone Manager, Mr Zacharia Muyengi said the authority intends to expand awareness on insurance matters to the public from 40-50 percent to 80 percent.
The exhibitions kicked off on Friday. He said the target is to reach 80 percent of Tanzanians with knowledge and awareness on insurance matters by 2030, and 50 percent of people with insurance cover across the country.
Furthermore, Mr Muyengi, who represented TIRA Commissioner of Insurance, Dr Baghayo Saqware said, during the signing of Bills into Universal Health Insurance (UHI) last year November that President Samia Suluhu Hassan directed authorities to ensure Tanzanians are educated on the importance of insurance.
“To implement President Samia’s directives, we have recruited 1000 sales executives to provide awareness to the public across the country,” said Mr Muyengi.
Mr Muyengi said so far there are total of 40 registered insurance companies and 1600 agencies. He said TIRA is looking forward to registering more companies.
Association of Tanzania Insurance (ATI) Executive Officer Mr Elia Kajiba urged Tanzanians to insure their properties to avoid loss that may occur when accidents or anything detrimental occurs.
“We urge all Tanzanians to insure their properties, it is something that assures someone’s security of properties and health,” he noted.
