Thrilling action continues in 2025 Lake Victoria Basketball League

MWANZA: THE Mwanza Regional Basketball Association (MRBA) 2025 edition of the Lake Victoria Basketball League (LVBL) continued thrillingly at the Mirongo Basketball Court over the weekend.
Benson Nyaseba, one of the league officials, said fans were treated with thrills and battle as teams showcased skills, intensity and a glimpse of what’s shaping up to be a highly competitive season.
Among weekend fixtures, Switch Basketball Club assert dominance with a commanding 61-37 victory over Sengerema Hoopers.
The 24-point margin underscored Switch’s readiness to contend for the title this season, cementing their ambition for a playoff berth.
Nyaseba added that the other match delivered a nail-biting encounter as Mwanza Octopus narrowly defeated league leaders Bugando Planet 56-50 in a tightly contested showdown.
Despite the loss, league leader Bugando Planet showed promise and remains a team to watch in the upcoming games. In Friday’s results, Madingi Wii edged past Mabatini 73-68, while Kisesa was awarded a 20-0 victory over no-show Oratorio.
Organised by MRBA, the LVBL, which brings together 12 teams, continues to grow in popularity, providing a vital platform for local talent to shine.

Nyaseba noted that the matches are held at the iconic Mirongo Basketball Court, with the league proudly sponsored by Muunganozi FM Radio, Crossover and Yas Mix.
As the regular season nears its final stretch, the playoff picture in the LVBL is starting to take shape. As of October 5, 2025, the top eight teams are positioned to advance to the much-anticipated quarterfinal playoffs.
Leading the pack are Planet, Profile and Eagles, all tied with 18 points from 10 games, boasting identical records of eight wins and two losses.
However, Planet holds the top spot, thanks to a superior goal difference, edging out Profile and Eagles, who remain strong contenders. Close behind are Switch and Madingi Wii, both sitting on 16 points.
Switch, having played all 10 of their matches, has secured six wins, while Madingi Wii, with a game in hand, boasts an impressive 7-2 record that could see them climb further.
Octopus and Kisesa also remain firmly in the playoff bracket, each having collected 15 points from nine games.
Rounding off the current playoff zone is Crossover BC, sitting in eighth place with 14 points.
