COAST REGION: THE FIBA Africa U16 Championships for Zone V qualifiers tournament gets underway today at Filbert Bayi stadium in Kibaha, Coast region.
The three-day tournament is scheduled to wind up on Sunday whereby the youngsters from the East Africa region will be battling to grab the top prizes as they showcase their talents in the qualifiers race for the 2024 FIBA U16 African Championships.
Trio-nation led by the host Tanzania, Kenya, and Burundi will square it out in the boys and girls’ categories showdown.
Hosts Tanzania Basketball Federation (TBF) president Michael Kadebe told the ‘Daily News’ yesterday that preparation for the event has been completed and ready for the event to take place.
Kadebe showed his excitement at the honour of hosting the prestigious event while basketball fans are eagerly waiting for the junior’s showdown.
“I am happy that Kenya and Burundi turned up to participate in youth competitions in the East Africa Community Zone V battle. “The neighbouring teams coming will increase the competition and the level of our youth as well,” he said.
Kadebe added that Tanzania youths are ready for the tough challenge ahead and that the national junior players will be the key to the team’s drive for success and future national senior teams.

The six teams’ three in each boy and girl’s categories are going all out to showcase their talents and they will not disappoint.
The FIBA U16 AfroBasket, previously known as the FIBA U16 African Championship, is a biennial international youth basketball competition consisting of under-16 national teams organised by FIBA Africa in collaboration with the host country.
It also serves as a qualification tournament for the FIBA Under-17 Basketball World Cup, where the top two teams directly qualify
