THRDC calls for peaceful campaign ahead of General Elections

DAR ES SALAAM: THE National Coordinator of the Tanzania Human Rights Defenders Coalition (THRDC), Mr. Onesmo Olengurumwa, has insisted on the proper use of words that will enable Tanzania to conduct peaceful General Elections.
Speaking to members of the press, Mr. Olengurumwa emphasized the importance of maintaining peace and national unity by being cautious with public statements.
“We urge all politicians in the country, especially during this election campaign, to be very careful about the kind of language they use. Sometimes, statements are made without fully understanding their impact, or even with good intentions, but they may end up creating unnecessary tension or putting individuals at risk,” he said.
Mr. Olengurumwa said elections are vital for all Tanzanians, and therefore, it is essential for political parties to prioritize national interests.

He further advised the political parties to shrug off their differences and engage in meaningful dialogue that promotes national consensus and development.
As Tanzania approaches its next General Elections, the message from THRDC serves as a reminder of the power of words and the responsibility leaders carry in shaping public discourse and safeguarding peace.
THRDC plays a critical role in advocating for peaceful elections, urging all stakeholders to respect democratic principles, human rights, and the rule of law.

Spot on. It’s all about keeping the peace and focusing on what’s best for the country. Hope all parties can put aside their differences for the greater good.
