THN urged to enhance girls’ participation in economy

DAR ES SALAAM: THE government has urged the Tanzania Hub Network (THN) to continue promoting female innovators to enhance girls’ participation in economic issues.

The appeal was made on Friday by the Deputy Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Community Development, Gender, Women and Special groups, Ms Felister Mdemu when closing the THN’s working session  in Dar es Salaam.

The Deputy PS said that the participation of girls in innovation issues is still limited, noting it is high time THN effectively utilised its platform by coming up with innovations that will increase women’s participation in economic matters.

“We should open doors for youth-led innovation, enhance gender-related solutions and create an environment where no woman or girl is left behind,” she said.

She added that by doing so, they will scale up the country’s generation equality commitments.

Tanzania committed to implement Generation Equality Forum (GEF) under 2nd action coalition on Economic Justice and Rights, which was adopted in 2021.

Generation equality is the world’s leading initiative convened by UN Women to accelerate investment and implementation on gender equality.

Tanzania has set to implement the commitment by focusing on investments in gender responsive public and private care services and care work, advancing decent work for women in both formal and informal economies and enhancing women’s access, use of and control over productive resources.

To propel that, the country developed a multispectral programme titled Tanzania Generation Equality Programme (TGEP) 2021-2026.

“The country’s unwavering commitment to advancing economic justice and rights has set a remarkable example for others,” she added.

Adding: “We recognise the importance of innovations that address  deep-rooted gender inequalities addressed by the GEF commitments.”

THN Chairman, Mr Kiko Kiwanga pledged to ensure the country’s commitment in gender equality is well implemented.

“We will go to support the hubs through the fund we received from the Funguo Programme by building the capacity of technical assistants to assist women,”
