DAR ES SALAAM: THE TFS Dance Rangers group is celebrating a major achievement after winning the 2024 Dar India Women Association (DIWA) Inter-Community Dance competition.
This victory marks a significant milestone for the group, which had previously placed second in their past two attempts at the competition.
Held over the weekend at the Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre (SVCC) in Masaki, Dar es Salaam, the DIWA-organised event saw the TFS Dance Rangers finally claim the top honuor they had been striving for.
Group leader Fatema Juma shared with the ‘Daily News’ that this year’s win is particularly gratifying. “We have competed in this event for three years. In 2022 and 2023, we took second place.
We are thrilled to have finally achieved our goal and become the 2024 champions,” she said.

Founded in 2022, the Dar es Salaam-based TFS Dance Rangers comprises seven members: Ramadhani Bakari (Assistant Choreographer), Silvester Ashery, Salumu Abasi, Moses Status, Kibibi Ramadhani and Shamte.
“We aim to showcase Tanzanian dance talent globally and highlight Africa’s artistic contributions,” Fatema added. “We want to ensure that African talent shines on the world stage.”
Fatema encouraged Tanzanians to embrace and share their talents, inviting them to join the TFS Dance Rangers. “I urge talented Tanzanians not to hide their gifts but to come forward and join us. Together, we can demonstrate that Tanzania excels in the arts,” she noted.
Juma also called on the government to prioritise the arts, emphasising the vast potential for talent in the country.
The DIWA, founded by Anurag Kaur, continues its annual festival with a series of events. DIWA manager Soumya Chavan outlined the upcoming activities on 7th August (today) with the Rongoli workshop, on 8th August will be a fun and food, Mela, on 11th August Kalamandalam Independence Day, 12th August Tabla workshop, on 13th August Music Lecture and demonstration by Vishru Mishra or Yoga by Mariam.
On 15th August will be cultural program activities, on 16th August Mehendi workshop 17th Fancy Dress Competition for children (theme – India -Tanzania folk and tribal dresses) and a cultural evening which will be held at Arusha Cultural Centre.
