ZANZIBAR: THE government is finalising the recruitment process for new teachers to address the shortage of teaching staff in public schools across the country.
Deputy Minister for Education and Vocational Training in the Isles, Mr Ali Abdulgullam Hussein told the House of Representatives recently, acknowledging the ongoing challenge of shortage of teachers in Zanzibar schools.
He assured that the government is actively working to resolve this issue.

The deputy minister said that the Ministry of Education has invited job applications, conducted interviews and was now in the final stages of deploying the newly hired teachers to schools with the greatest need.
Deputy Minister Hussein was responding to a question from Mtambwe Legislator Dr Mohammed Ali Suleiman, who inquired about government efforts to address the acute shortage of teachers at Uondwe School in his constituency.
Legislator Suleiman highlighted that Uondwe School, established in 1957, is facing a severe shortage of teachers, with only 12 staff members currently serving 544 students. The student population is expected to increase to 700 next year.
