TCRA, Comoros to collaborate in ICT advancement

DAR ES SALAAM: THE Tanzania Communications Regulatory Authority (TCRA) is set to enter into a collaborative agreement in the field of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) with the Comoros National Agency for Digital Development (ANADEN).

The prospective mutual agreement was realised over the weekend, following a skills exchange meeting between the two parties in Dar es Salaam.

Accompanied by a delegation from ANADEN, the Ambassador of the Union of the Comoros in Tanzania, Mr Said Yakubu, along with the Director General of the National Agency for Digital Development (ANADEN), Mr Said Muoinuo Ahamada expressed their honour in having the opportunity to learn and witness how Tanzania, through TCRA has made significant strides in the communications sector.

Representing the Director General Dr Jabiri Bakari, the Director of Industrial Affairs (DIA) at TCRA, Engineer Mwesigwa Felician, commended the delegation for choosing Tanzania and TCRA as a learning platform for ICT matters.

While presenting on the Authority’s roles and responsibilities, he highlighted Tanzania’s pride in its ICT advancements, including the establishment of a National Data Centre.

During his presentation to a four-person delegation from the Union of Comoros, Eng Mwesigwa gave a detailed explanation of achievements realised by the country’s communication sector having mobile phone money services cherished by over 90 per cent of the population with a total of 60.8 million SIM cards registered for the service as of September 2024.

Another achievement, he said, Tanzania has been ranked one of the exemplary states in the world, including being ranked as the first nation in East and Central Africa on conformity to pillars of cyber security, as revealed by the recently released- Geneva based, International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Global Cyber Security Index.

Director of ANADE Ahamada stated that the purpose of their visit was to learn and explore how Comoros could develop the expertise needed to establish systems for government services, such as an e-Government agency, a national domain registry (domain names) and a national data centre.

“These developments aim at fostering the growth of internet usage and digital services in both government and private sector operations,” he said.
