TBL supports sustainable Monduli barley farmers

ARUSHA: TANZANIA Breweries Limited (TBL) has empowered over 200 barley farmers in Monduli District, Arusha Region with practical skills and sustainable farming solutions aimed at boosting productivity and crop quality.
The initiative underscores TBL’s strategic investment in strengthening local agricultural value chains, while also showing the company’s reliance on homegrown barley to support its brewing operations.
Monduli District Executive Director, Mr Muhsin Kassim, said during the Barley Farmers’ Day over the weekend that TBL’s intervention marks a significant shift toward more inclusive and resilient agribusiness partnerships in the country.
“Today, we celebrate their efforts and reaffirm our commitment to support them through research, quality extension services and better market access,” he said.
During the event, TBL offered practical training and expert guidance to boost yields and crop quality. The annual event serves as a platform to recognise farmers’ contributions to barley production and highlight the government’s continued support for agriculture as a key driver of economic growth, especially in regions like Arusha.
Barley is a key raw material in TBL’s beer production operations and for many years, the brewer has supported smallholder farmers through secure contract farming and good agricultural training.

“Events like this remind us of the vital role farmers’ play not only in food security but also in advancing industries like ours. “We are committed to strengthening relationships with farmers and promoting sustainable agriculture that benefits everyone in the value chain,” she said.
The event included a demonstration farm and knowledge-sharing sessions, addressing challenges like climate change, post-harvest losses and input access, while seeking collective solutions.
By supporting farmers, TBL not only secures a steady supply of quality raw materials but also contributes significantly to the local economy by creating jobs, increasing household incomes and promoting sustainable agricultural practices that enhance food security and rural development.
This collaborative approach strengthens the entire barley value chain, fostering long-term resilience and growth for both farmers and the industry.
Barley Farmers’ Day ended with a unified call for stronger collaboration among the private sector, farmers and government to boost productivity, sustainability and market access in the barley value chain.
