TBC, WildAid launch environmental campaign

DAR ES SALAAM: THE Tanzania Broadcasting Corporation (TBC), through its flagship conservation programme on the Tanzania Safari Channel, has renewed its commitment to environmental preservation and urged locals to protect nature.
TBC, Acting Director General Daphrosa Kimbory said yesterday at the launch of ‘Mimi ni Mhifadhi’ campaign that the responsibility to protect forests, natural resources and the wider environment lies with every citizen. “Environmental conservation is our shared responsibility,” Ms Kimbory said “TBC is playing its part as the national broadcaster”.
The ‘Mimi ni Mhifadhi’ campaign is about building collective accountability and encouraging all citizens to identify as conservators.
She said they are committed to using their platforms to inspire and mobilise all Tanzanians to take action, regardless of their background or social status.
“Our survival animals and plants depends on clean and healthy surroundings. That is why Tanzania Safari Channel, is dedicated to raising awareness and promoting real, visible action,” she said.

Ms Kimbory also highlighted TBC’s involvement in tree-planting initiatives, most notably the ‘27 ya Kijani’ campaign launched in January 2023. The campaign began with tree planting in military camps and schools and has continued monthly.
“Every 27th of the month, we continue the campaign. It’s more than a moment it’s now a movement,” Ms Kimbory said, expressing pride in TBC’s ongoing environmental role. Nakaaya Sumari, a presenter at Tanzania Safari Channel and ambassador for WildAid, said the environment shape’s identity and the country is a home to the largest population of lions in the world and ranks second for elephants.
“Protecting our environment is not just for the future it improves our daily lives today,” she said.
The nature-based tourism contributes about 18 per cent of the country GDP annually and supports over 1.5 million jobs.
The campaign continues to be implemented across the country through media content, public pledges, and grassroots environmental activities.
It serves as a national call to action and a powerful reminder that conservation begins with individual commitment.
