TASAF targets climate-vulnerable households in Kibaha

COAST REGION: THE government, through the Tanzania Social Action Fund (TASAF), has commenced an exercise to identify poor households at risk of being affected by climate change in Kibaha District Council, Coast Region.
The initiative forms part of Phase Three of the Poor Households Relief Programme.
Speaking during a capacity building training for trainers involved in the exercise this week in Kibaha, Acting TASAF National Director, Ms Sara Mshiu, said the exercise is a strategic step towards building a robust database of beneficiaries.
She noted that this will enable the government to provide rapid and targeted assistance whenever disasters such as droughts and floods occur.
Meanwhile, Acting District Executive Director, Ms Shukuru Lusanjala, urged facilitators to uphold work ethics, integrity and transparency to ensure that poor households are identified fairly based on their actual circumstances.

Ms Lusanjala also thanked the government for including Kibaha among 59 areas nationwide identified by the Tanzania Meteorological Authority (TMA) as vulnerable to droughts and floods.
She noted that the initiative will strengthen both the Government’s and the Council’s capacity to cope with the effects of climate change in the region.
Ms Lusanjala emphasised that the exercise is not linked to immediate funding or automatic inclusion in the TASAF programme but is a long-term measure to ensure accurate information on poor and vulnerable households is available for future planning
