TASAC marks Customer Service Week with on spot seafarers’ registration

DAR ES SALAAM: AS part of the climax of the Customer Service Week celebrations, the Director General of the Tanzania Shipping Agencies Corporation (TASAC), Mr. Mohamed Salum, registered qualified seafarers on the spot during an exercise held at TASAC’s Seafarer Registration Offices located at the PSSSF Garden Avenue Tower in Dar es Salaam.
Speaking during the event, Mr. Salum said TASAC conducted the registration exercise as part of the global commemoration of Customer Service Week, this year marked under the theme “Mission: Possible.”
“This week reminds us that excellent customer service is achievable when we cultivate a culture of dedication, teamwork, and innovation in our work,” said Mr Salum.
Mr. Salum further announced that TASAC is preparing to launch the issuance of digital seafarers’ certificates, a modern initiative aimed at improving management, authenticity, and accessibility of seafarers’ qualifications through digital systems.
“Through this system, seafarers will be able to obtain and verify their certificates easily from anywhere. The certificates will feature international security marks such as QR codes and digital signatures to completely eliminate the risk of forgery,” he explained.

Participating seafarers expressed their appreciation to TASAC for its efforts to strengthen and modernize maritime services in Tanzania, noting that the initiative reflects genuine commitment to customer-oriented service.
Meanwhile, Mr. Salum revealed that TASAC is in the process to ensure that Tanzanian seafarers’ certificates are formally recognized by the European Union (EU), a milestone that will open more employment opportunities for Tanzanian seafarers in the global maritime market.
“Recognition of Tanzanian certificates by the EU will mean that our seafarers can be employed on ships owned by European companies or registered under EU member states’ flags without legal barriers,” he emphasized.
According to TASAC, these efforts are part of the Government of Tanzania’s broader strategy to enhance the maritime sector through the adoption of digital systems and improved customer service standards in line with international best practices.
