TARURA tells COP30 of its success in building resilient infrastructure
BELEM: The Tanzania Rural and Urban Roads Agency (TARURA) has continued to strengthen environmental management by constructing resilient infrastructure, including bridges, to mitigate the impacts of floods caused by climate change.
Deputy Permanent Secretary in the Prime Minister’s Office, Regional Administration and Local Government (Infrastructure), Engineer Rogatus Mativila made the statement during the ongoing 30th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP 30) currently underway in Belém, Brazil.
Elaborating, the Engineer said that the ‘SCALE’ (Scaling up Locally Led Climate Actions) program, being implemented with concessional loans from the World Bank, is crucial for executing the National Climate Change Response Strategy as it involves local communities in addressing climate change in their areas.
Additionally, he said the PS noted that the program is expected to reach approximately 6.6 million people across 65 local government authorities, including 54 from mainland Tanzania and 11 from Zanzibar, and it has strengthened the inclusion of special groups such as women and youth.
He further said that TARURA and DART continue to serve as key pillars in building resilient infrastructure at the community level and in enhancing economic opportunities for citizens.

Great success
