GEITA: THE Tanzania Rural and Urban Roads Agency (TARURA) in the Geita region has signed 24 contracts worth 9.6bn/- for the improvement of roads infrastructure in the region.
During the signing ceremony, TARURA Regional Manager Engineer David Msechu stated that the implementation of the projects will open up the region and improve both social and economic activities among the residents.
The allocated funds will be used for the construction, repair and maintenance of roads in the region, with the signing ceremony taking place at the Geita Regional Commissioner’s office.
Engineer Msechu mentioned that the 9.6bn/- is part of the regional budget for the 2024/2025 financial year, with the government already approving over 20bn/- for TARURA in the Geita region.
“For the financial year 2024/25, TARURA in the Geita region has planned to implement a total of 59 projects, with 35 projects already assigned contractors,” he explained.
Mr Msechu stated that the signed contracts will be implemented within six months, adding that TARURA in the Geita region oversees a total of 7,263.44 kilometres of road network, of which 3,832.34 kilometres are passable at all times.

Geita Regional Administrative Secretary Mr Mohamed Gombati noted that the signed contracts for road improvements in the region have the potential to boost economic growth and shape sustainable development.
Geita Regional Commissioner Mr Martin Shigella expressed that the signed contracts will help restore the road network damaged during heavy rains, urging the contractors to comply with terms and conditions by completing the work on time and with high quality.
“I implore contractors to actively implement contracts by finishing the project on time and, if possible, even before the deadline.
If you focus on criteria and quality, no one will doubt,” Mr Shigella insisted.
