Tanzania’s security organs affirm readiness to deal with illegal demonstrations

DODOMA: THE Police, in collaboration with other security and defense organs, continues to prepare for appropriate measures against criminal activities being planned and promoted on social media and by certain groups of people ahead of Tanzania’s National Day, December 9, 2025.

Delivering the statement today, December 5, 2025, the Police Force Spokesperson, David Misime, said national laws, including the Police and Auxiliary Police Act, Chapter 322, as amended in 2023, provide guidelines regarding public gatherings and demonstrations.

Section 43(1) of the Act requires that any person intending to hold, organize, or coordinate a public gathering or demonstration must submit a written notice to the Supervising Police Officer of the respective area.

The notice must specify the location of the gathering, the time, the purpose, and other important details as may be announced by the Minister through the government gazette.

Misime stated that thorough monitoring conducted on social media and in various areas has revealed the promotion of tactics intended to be carried out during the demonstrations scheduled for December 9, 2025.

Some of these tactics include the use of weapons by individuals skilled in handling them, burning communication towers, paralyzing port operations by blocking roads, looting property under the pretext of hunger, disrupting hospital services, and harming government workers.

In view of this, the statement emphasized that the Police Force continues to strengthen security and uphold its core responsibilities, including ensuring the continued presence of peace, stability, and safety in the country.

Additionally, the Police Force expressed gratitude to citizens and various stakeholders for their significant cooperation in safeguarding and promoting national peace.
