Tanzania’s ladies golf team finishes third at EACAACT

NAIVASHA: TANZANIA’S ladies golf team finished third overall at the East and Central Africa All Africa Challenge Trophy (EACAACT), which concluded yesterday at the Great Rift Valley Lodge in Naivasha, Kenya.

Despite a determined effort, the reigning champions were unable to retain their regional crown, as hosts Kenya won the 2025 title with 443 strokes (+17).

La Réunion finished second with 445 (+19), while Tanzania rounded off the podium with 460 strokes (+34) after three rounds (54 holes) involving seven nations. Team captain Neema Olomi led Tanzania with a strong individual performance, finishing second behind champion Melliyal Schmitt of La Réunion. Olomi carded rounds of 72, 76 and 72 for a total of 220 (+7), showing consistency across the championship.

Another notable performance came from Shufaa Twalib, making her senior team debut after promotion from the under-18 squad. Twalib improved each round, scoring 85, 79 and 78 to finish tied for 9th at 242 (+29), signalling promise for the future of Tanzanian women’s golf.

Completing the team effort, Vicky Elias contributed rounds of 83, 80, and 82, finishing 12th individually and providing stability throughout the competition.

Uganda placed fourth with 478 (+52), Zambia fifth with 486 (+60), Rwanda sixth with 514 (+88) and Madagascar seventh with 537 (+111).

Under the leadership of Yasmin Chali, team manager and honorary secretary of the Tanzania Ladies Golf Union (TLGU), the squad aimed to defend the title they won in 2023 in Kigali, Rwanda.

While the team did not reclaim the crown, their thirdplace finish and the emergence of young talents like Twalib reflected growing depth and potential within Tanzania women’s golf programme.
