Tanzania’s internet usage soars by 11.95 percent as subscriptions rise to 62.7m

DAR ES SALAAM: THE Internet usage in Tanzania has increased by 11.95 per cent to reach 1,041 petabytes over a three-month period, while internet subscriptions rose by 6.48 per cent to 62.7 million.

The figures were released today, August 10, 2026, during the presentation of the Tanzania Communications Regulatory Authority (TCRA) Fourth Quarter Performance Report for the 2025/26 financial year.

Speaking during the presentation, Minister for Information, Communication and Information Technology, Angellah Kairuki, said the communications sector had continued to grow, becoming an important driver of economic growth and national development.

She said the increase in mobile phone and internet usage demonstrates the growing importance of technology in the daily lives of Tanzanians, particularly in economic and social activities.

According to the report, internet usage increased by 11.95 per cent during the three-month period, reflecting the continued expansion of digital services in the country.

The report also shows that internet subscriptions reached 62.7 million, representing a 6.48 per cent increase during the period under review.

Meanwhile, mobile phone subscriptions reached 117 million, an increase of 4.51 per cent compared with the quarter ending in March 2026.

TCRA said the increase reflects continued growth in the use of communication services, alongside greater access to information and various services through digital platforms.

Minister Kairuki said the government would continue creating an enabling environment for the growth of the communications sector to ensure citizens benefit more from opportunities arising from the use of technology and digital services.
