Tanzanians seek nursing jobs in Saudi Arabia

ZANZIBAR: ABOUT 370 Tanzanians have applied for nursing jobs in Saudi Arabia, with seven of them from Zanzibar, the House of Representatives was told here yesterday.

Minister of State, President’s Office, Labour, Economic Affairs and Investments Shariff Ali Shariff informed the house that out of the total applicants, 50 have no licenses from Tanzania Nursing and Midwifery Council and 43 are public servants in various public institutions.

Just recently, the union government announced 500 jobs for female nurses in Saudi hospitals, with a nursing degree; registration with the nursing council; and at least two years of experience as the required qualifications.

Answering a question by Mwanakwerekwe Representative Ameir Abdalla Ameir who wanted to know the number of applicants from Zanzibar, Minister Shariff said the recruitment is coordinated under the Prime Minister’s Office, Labour, Youth, Employment and People with Disabilities.

He however said his office has been mobilising young ladies with qualifications to apply for the jobs, noting that through collaboration with the Ministry of Health, the office contacted nursing colleges in the country to encourage their students to apply.
