Tanzanian surgeons remove a tumor weighing 7kg from a 14-year-old girl

BUKOBA: A surgical team, working together with specialists from the Regional Referral Hospital in Bukoba, Kagera region, has successfully performed a major operation to remove a tumor weighing seven kilograms from the reproductive organs of a 14-year-old girl.
According to the hospital’s surgeon, Dr. Emmanuel Absalum Mwakasumi, the girl was admitted to the hospital suffering from abdominal pain, frequent constipation, and a persistent feeling of fullness even without eating. After conducting various tests, it was discovered that she had a tumor causing these health challenges.

“After conducting the tests, we found a large tumor on the left side of her reproductive organs. We decided to operate, and we thank God that the surgery was very successful without any complications. The tumor weighed seven kilograms, and if she had not come to the hospital, it could have led to more serious problems,” said Dr. Mwakasumi.
The surgical team praised the cooperation provided by specialists from various disciplines during the operation.
He emphasized that such a condition can be congenital, caused by cells involved in growth and division during development. Sometimes these cells migrate to areas where they are not supposed to be and can continue to grow, forming tumors like this or other types of growths.
Dr. Mwakasumi urged parents and the general public to seek medical attention promptly whenever they notice any changes in their health. He warned that some people delay visiting hospitals, which often worsens their medical conditions.
