TANZANIAN boxer Yusuf Changalawe (pictured) lost against Norwegian Mindaugas Gedminas in the round of 32 of the World Olympic Qualifiers in Busto Arsizio, Italy.
Unfortunately, the judges voted 3 against 2 in favor of Gedminas, resulting in a split decision.
This loss means that Changalawe’s journey in this first-world competition to qualify for the Paris 2024 Olympics has come to an end.
He needed to win two more fights to qualify. Changalawe is expected to leave Milan, Italy soon and head to Accra, Ghana to participate in the All-Africa Games.
The boxing category in All Africa Games will officially start next Thursday.
He will join his fellow seven colleagues on the National Boxing Team; ‘Black Rhino of Ngorongoro’, who travelled yesterday morning by Ethiopian Airlines via Addis Ababa and have already arrived in Accra, Ghana for the games.
The other seven boxers picked for the African games include five males and two females.
The men boxers are Abdallah Mohammed (Flyweight), Ezra Paul (Lightweight), Abdallah Mfaume (Welterweight), Musa Maregesi (Cruiserweight) and Mhina Magogo (Heavyweight).
The women boxers include Miriam Maligisa (Minimumweight) and Zulfa Macho (Flyweight).
The squad will travel with two coaches, Samuel Kapungu and Muhisin Mohamed.
