Tanzanian author launches ‘Jua Na Ua’ to inspire young minds

DAR ES SALAAM – Tanzanian author Ms Prudence Zoe Glorious unveiled her latest literary creation, Jua Na Ua, a children’s storybook designed to nurture young imaginations and connect children to the rich cultural heritage of Tanzania.
The launch event took place at the newly opened PZG-PR office on 50 Msasani Road, Oysterbay, Dar es Salaam.
The book, titled Jua Na Ua (translated as “Sun and Flower”), offers a collection of engaging stories that are rooted in Tanzanian philosophy and culture.
The aim of the series is to foster a sense of adventure in children while teaching them important life lessons, all the while encouraging them to stay connected to their African roots and values.
In Jua Na Ua, readers are introduced to two main characters—Jua, the African boy child, and Ua, the African girl child—who are raised in a Tanzanian family steeped in tradition.
Each page of the 24-page book brings to life meaningful narratives that impart essential moral lessons. Themes such as kindness, curiosity, and the importance of building bridges with others are explored throughout the book, with particular emphasis on the following topics:
- Think good thoughts for yourself and others (7-8)
- Bring others with you (9-10)
- Speak mostly about what you care for (11-14)
- Your friends speak well of you (15-16)
- Stay curious (17-18)
- Build bridges (19-20)
- Stay kind (21)
- Seek new playgrounds (22-23)
- Shout and tell everyone (24)
The stories highlight the everyday lives of Tanzanian and African children, showing how they engage with family and friends, especially during weekends and holidays.
Through vibrant narratives, children are encouraged to explore the world around them, including trips to national parks to witness the wonder of animals such as lions, zebras, and giraffes in their natural habitats.
During the launch, Ms Glorious, who is also the Chief Executive Officer of PZG-PR, spoke passionately about the importance of writing for the younger generation.
She shared insights into her creative process and the significance of storytelling in shaping the future of Tanzanian children.
“Representation in a variety of media matters. I wanted to create a work of literature where the main characters are black children to serve as a positive reflection of Africans.
By intertwining our philosophies and heritage into the stories we tell our children, Jua Na Ua honours Tanzania’s wisdom, inspiring children to think critically, embrace their heritage, and explore their potential. Imagination is the highest form of intelligence, and I hope this book sparks that in every child,” Ms Glorious said.
The event was further enriched by interactive STEM activities, entertainment, and an opportunity to purchase signed copies of the book. It proved to be a memorable occasion for young readers, their families, and literary enthusiasts alike.
The launch at PZG-PR’s office served as a testament to the company’s continued commitment to impactful storytelling, education, and the preservation of Tanzanian cultural identity for future generations.
HELLO, I WOULD LIKE TO HAVE COPIES FOR MY CHILDREN.
