DAR ES SALAAM: THE government has vowed to redouble its efforts to secure more international opportunities so as to increase Tanzanian representation in international organisations.
Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Ambassador Mahmoud Thabit Kombo made the remarks yesterday while delivering his speech as the guest of honour at the 27th graduation ceremony of the Dr Salim Ahamed Salimu Centre for Foreign Relations (CFR) held in Dar es Salaam.
During the ceremony, the Minister conferred awards to over 890 graduands at certificates, diplomas, degrees, postgraduate diplomas and master’s degree levels. “Our nation has a great wealth of highly qualified professionals, whom we should utilise their expertise, both nationally and internationally in addressing various global challenges,” he said.
He urged the CFR to continue expanding its scope in offering both short-term and long-term training, as well as strengthening research activities, including providing professional consultations that addresses various emerging diplomatic challenges worldwide.
Regarding the significance of diplomacy being a cross-cutting sector that impacts all areas, the Minister underscored the need for more research in various fields through the centre.
He said more research aimed at bolstering Tanzania’s cooperation with other nations globally to be used as essential means for unlocking economic opportunities.
Ambassador Kombo further noted that, in making sure that Tanzania competes significantly in securing international opportunities, greater emphasis should be placed on learning as many foreign languages as possible and on public speaking.
Speaking on the changing global geopolitical situation, the Minister insisted on the need for more practices for professionals and graduates so as to enable the country to compete significantly in global diplomatic arena for sustainability.
He said President Samia has significantly opened up the country through initiatives like the Royal Tour, which has effectively marketed Tanzania globally.
He noted the country’s participation in addressing global challenges, such as the clean cooking agenda, that has paved the way for more international collaborations and opportunities that require more local experts.
The Minster also advised the Centre to improve its pregramme so that it can meet the growing demands of professionals in different ministries but also in private sectors, insisting on quality over quantity.
Ambassador Kombo congratulated the graduands for the significant achievement in their lives and urged them to use their profession in addressing challenges that affect the country and livelihoods.
“I urge you to observe patriotism by prioritising the collective interests of the country over personal gains, focusing on professionalism, ethics and applying wisdom in your work,” he said.

Furthermore, the minister urged the graduands to utilise well their knowledge in seeking capital and creating opportunities for their fellow youth, urging proper utilisation of technology like social media for economic gains.
On his part, the CFR governing Council Chairperson, Ambassador Ramadhan Mwinyi expressed his gratitude to the government through the ministry of Foreign affairs for continuing providing stewardship that enhance its excellence.
He also commended the government for engaging the centre in preparation of the economic diplomacy policy that stands as the cornerstone for enhanced economic diplomacy and bilateral ties.
