Tanzania, Türkiye commit to boost trade, investments

ANKARA, TÜRKIYE: Tanzania has reiterated its commitment to enhancing a mutually beneficial relationship with Türkiye.

President Samia stated at a joint press conference with her Turkish counterpart, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, at the State House in Ankara on Thursday.

During the event, the two heads of state witnessed the signing of six Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) that will facilitate cooperation in the areas of higher education, economic cooperation, and cultural exchange.
To implement the agreed-upon deals, President Samia noted that they have directed responsible ministers and their respective teams of experts to meet and come up with a framework for strategizing the implementation of the areas of cooperation.
“Türkiye has been a valued partner with Tanzania; hence, my visit to Ankara underscores my commitment to cherishing this partnership,” she said.
Regarding the existing bilateral relationship, she added that it has paved the way for Turkish experts to contribute to transforming Tanzania through the execution of flagship projects, including the standard gauge railway (SGR) linking Tanzania to other neighboring countries.
“On the promotion of trade and investment, Tanzania aims to engage with the Turkish private sector, and we will be meeting tomorrow in Istanbul.
“The engagement will focus on three key messages: informing them of the positive impact that Turkish investors and businesses are making in our country, presenting the business environment in Tanzania, and outlining the position that Tanzania can offer businesses. We welcome Turkish investors, especially in the areas of manufacturing, agriculture, and tourism,” President Samia said.
In a tete-a-tete meeting with the President of Türkiye, President Samia discussed pressing global issues, including the Palestine conflict.
“We reiterate our call for an immediate cessation of hostilities in Palestine,” she said.
On his part, the Turkish President remarked that the existing relationship does not reflect the trade volume between the two countries, hence the current initiatives aimed at increasing it to 1 billion US dollars.
He added that the sincere relationship established between the two parties strengthens their determination to fight injustice in the world.
