DAR ES SALAAM: Tanzania is set to host the launch of the African Youth Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Robotics competitions during the 8th Global Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Conference, expected to bring together experts and industry stakeholders from both Europe and Africa.
The conference, scheduled for October 13 to 17 in Dar es Salaam, aims to foster knowledge exchange and innovation in AI and ICT while raising public awareness about technological advancements happening in the country.
The Minister of Information, Communications, and Information Technology, Jerry Silaa, emphasized the significance of the event, especially in the technology sector, given the current wave of innovation happening globally.
“This conference will bring together global ICT stakeholders to share expertise.AI is now a global issue, and its implementation has already started in our country. While it’s a new concept, AI is rapidly gaining momentum.
The ministry will continue to support the ICT Commission in achieving its goals,” said Silaa during a meeting with the ICT Commission on Wednesday in Dar es Salaam.
On his part, the Director of the ICT Commission, Dr. Nkundwe Mwasaga, added that the conference will also feature a range of discussions, along with exhibitions showcasing innovations from Tanzanian youth startups.

He noted that Tanzania’s impressive global ranking in cybersecurity, where the country was placed first in a September assessment, was one of the reasons that influenced the decision to host the conference in Tanzania.

He also highlighted that Tanzania has been recognized as one of the top 25 countries in the world for digital services, thanks to the country’s vibrant startup ecosystem.
