Tanzania says ready to learn, improve the foundation of its democracy

DODOMA: THE President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Samia Suluhu Hassan, has stated that the government is ready to learn and make improvements in its journey to strengthen the foundations of democracy in the country.

While addressing the 13th Parliament during its first meeting, fourth sitting, today, November 14, 2025, in Dodoma, President Samia called on all groups of Tanzanians especially political parties to come together and engage in dialogue with the aim of building a peaceful and stable nation.

“In our journey to run Tanzania democratically, we are ready to learn and correct ourselves. Therefore, I urge all groups of Tanzanians, especially political parties, to sit together, talk, identify where we went wrong, and make corrections as we continue our journey toward a peaceful and stable nation,” President Samia said, emphasizing that the success of these reconciliation efforts depends on respecting traditions, customs, guidelines, and regulations rather than applying pressure.

Additionally, President Samia noted that since citizens have entrusted her with the mandate to continue leading the country, she will not tire in advancing efforts to promote reconciliation and understanding.

“Since Tanzanians have given me the mandate to continue leading this country, I will not tire of extending the hand of reconciliation. I hope that political stakeholders will genuinely accept this hand of understanding so that together we can build a conducive environment for the development of our nation.”

Expanding on this point, she stated that the Government will continue learning from the mistakes and shortcomings of democratic institutions while improving existing systems to align with current needs.

“We will learn from the mistakes and weaknesses of our democratic institutions. Tanzania has extensive experience in democratic systems and peace; Tanzania has a mature democracy. However, we continue to make improvements based on circumstances and time. Therefore, it is now our responsibility to commit ourselves to these reforms through our own will, without any form of pressure.”
