Tanzania Open lures 150 top African golfers to Arusha

DAR ES SALAAM: OVER 150 top golfers have been listed for the Vodacom Tanzania Open Golf Championship ahead of its official tee off on October 2nd in Arusha, Tanzania Golf Union (TGU) confirmed today, September 23rd, 2025.
TGU said the 2025 edition of the Vodacom Tanzania Open will be staged from October 2–5 at the scenic Kili Golf Club in Arusha.
More than 150 players from across Africa are expected to compete in this prestigious 72-hole, four-day tournament, which has become one of the continent’s premier golfing events.
So far, over 110 players have confirmed participation from countries including Kenya, Malawi, Zimbabwe, Uganda, Zambia, and Tanzania, according to TGU Chairman Gilman Kasiga.

Speaking at a press conference in Dar es Salaam, Kasiga confirmed that preparations are in full swing and promised a world-class golfing experience.
“We’re thrilled with the response so far, and we expect to exceed 150 players by the Friday registration deadline,” he said.
Kasiga expressed gratitude to the event’s title partner Vodacom Tanzania, which returns for the third consecutive year. He also warmly welcomed new sponsors, including HLB Tanzania and Hisense, along with co-sponsors TANAPA, Habari Wife, and MeTL Group.

HLB Tanzania Commits to Long-Term Sponsorship
A key highlight of this year’s announcement was the inclusion of HLB Tanzania as a new strategic sponsor, marking the firm’s entry into the sports sponsorship arena. Known for its excellence in audit, advisory, and tax services, HLB Tanzania has pledged to support the Tanzania Open for at least the next three years.
Steven Mapunda, Consulting Manager at HLB Tanzania, emphasized the company’s broader commitment to community development and national sports growth.
“We are proud to join this important initiative not just to promote the sport, but also to support the government’s efforts in strengthening public health and youth engagement through sports,” said Mapunda.
The partnership underscores HLB’s growing role in corporate social responsibility and positions the firm as a champion of grassroots and elite sports development in Tanzania.
This year’s tournament will feature a prize pool of over 35m/-, with 15 cash prizes for amateurs and 22 for professionals who make the cut.
The top professional will take home 8.2m/- , while the leading amateur will receive 2.5m/-, in accordance with global golf regulations that limit amateur prize earnings to under USD 1,000.

Joseph Sayi, Head of Marketing and Enablement at Vodacom Business, reaffirmed Vodacom’s long-standing support for sports.
“This tournament represents the best of Tanzanian golf. Partnering for the third year reflects our continued belief in sports as a catalyst for community development and technological empowerment,” he said.
In addition, TGU is continuing its youth golf development program, with the Juniors Category making a return to the tournament.
In partnership with the National Sports Council (NSC), TGU has provided equipment to clubs nationwide and is offering free training for junior players.
“We are committed to nurturing future golf talent. These juniors are the future of Tanzanian golf, and we are investing in them early,” Kasiga added.
With strong corporate backing and growing regional interest, the 2025 Vodacom Tanzania Open is set to be one of the most exciting editions yet.
