Tanzania, Oman hold talks to deepen bilateral ties in trade, investment

DAR ES SALAAM: TANZANIA and Oman have convened at a Special Business Forum in Dar es Salaam in a move seeking to strengthen and expand cooperation in the trade and economic sectors between the two nations.

The forum brought together businesspeople and investment stakeholders from both countries and was officially opened by Ambassador Abdallah Kilima, Director of the Middle East Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation.

Speaking at the forum’s opening, Ambassador Kilima noted that Tanzania and Oman have significant opportunities for collaboration across various sectors, including agriculture, fisheries, minerals, investment, tourism, and aviation. He also highlighted renewable energy and healthcare as key areas that could benefit greatly from this economic partnership.

On his part, Oman’s Ambassador to Tanzania, Saud Al Shidhani, who was accompanied by a delegation from Oman’s National Office for Private Sector Planning and Business Development and the Oman Chamber of Commerce, affirmed Oman’s readiness to work closely with Tanzania to boost trade and create employment opportunities for youth in both nations.

Ambassador Al Shidhani emphasized that Oman is committed to expanding cooperation in sectors such as food and food processing, healthcare, renewable energy, and enhancing collaboration between the private sectors of both countries, aligning with Tanzania’s development priorities.

Meanwhile, Ambassador John Ulanga, Director of the Economic Diplomacy Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, stated that the forum presents a unique opportunity for Tanzania to attract investment, promote trade, and increase youth employment.

Ambassador Ulanga also revealed that Tanzania’s exports have doubled over the past four years, rising from USD 8 billion to USD 16 billion, with the tourism and transport sectors contributing significantly to this growth. He underscored the need to further strengthen the country’s export performance.

The forum was also attended by various Tanzanian business institutions, including TanTrade, TISEZA, TCCIA, and Hill Water Company, all of which had the opportunity to present their business opportunities and challenges in the trade and investment sectors.
