Tanzania names CHAN 2024 squad with boost from U20

DAR ES SALAAM: TANZANIA has confirmed its squad for the CAF African Nations Championship (CHAN) final, set to take place this August. The country will co-host the tournament alongside Kenya and Uganda, with several matches scheduled to be played in Tanzania.

Head coach Hemed Suleiman has named a 28-man squad made up of seasoned local league players and a promising group of young talent. The squad features familiar names such as Aishi Manula, Shomari Kapombe, Mohamed Hussein, Abdulrazack Mohamed, Yusuph Kagoma and Kibu Denis from Simba SC, along with Dickson Job, Ibrahim Hamad and Clement Mzize from Young Africans.

Azam FC contributes several key players, including Lusajo Mwaikenda, Nassor Saadun, Feisal Salum, Iddy Selemani, Mohamed Paschal Msindo and Abdul Suleiman. Others selected include Hussein Masalanga from Singida Black Stars, Wilson Nangu and Yakoub Suleiman from JKT Tanzania; Lameck Lawi and Sabry Kondo from Coastal Union.

In a notable development, five players from the national Under-20 side, the Ngorongoro Heroes, have been included in the senior squad.Vedastus Masinde, Ahmed Pipino, Jammy Simba, Sheikhan Khamis and Mishano Michael will all be part of the team heading into the finals, a move that highlights the coaching team’s focus on youth development and long-term planning. Also making the squad is Tabora United’s Ibrahim Hamad adding further depth to the team.

Tanzania has been drawn into Group B, where they will face Madagascar, Burkina Faso, Mauritania and the Central African Republic. With the advantage of playing on home soil, the Taifa Stars are expected to be strong contenders in this year’s competition.

Coach Hemed expressed confidence in the group, saying the mix of experience and young energy gives Tanzania a solid chance to perform well and make an impact in front of their home supporters.
