Tanzania media assured of safety during the General Elections  

DAR ES SALAAM: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy, Dr. Doto Biteko, has emphasized that it is the government’s responsibility to ensure the safety of journalists throughout the entire electoral process. He affirmed that the government will do everything within its power to protect media personnel so they can carry out their duties without fear or intimidation.

Speaking during a media stakeholders’ meeting, Dr. Biteko highlighted the critical role journalists play as true guardians of the nation and builders of peace. He stated that journalism should serve the public interest and not be used as a tool for incitement or misinformation.

Dr. Biteko urged journalists to uphold the ethics of their profession by demonstrating patriotism, honesty, and integrity in their work. He added that media outlets must provide accurate and constructive information that promotes national unity and cohesion.

“You also must ensure that the media remains a clean mirror of society free from distortion, hatred, or bias,” said Dr. Biteko, stressing the importance of preserving the dignity of the journalism profession in Tanzania.
