Tanzania launches SGE project targeting a 1tri/-US dollar economy

DAR ES SALAAM: THE Tanzanian government, through the Ministry of Planning and Investment, has announced that one of the key priorities in the National Development Vision 2050 is the advancement of digital technology, which will be officially implemented from July 1, 2026.
The main goal is to support the growth of the national economy to reach a target of 1 tri US dollars.
Speaking in Dar es Salaam during the launch of the Sustainability and Environmental (SGE) Report released by Vodacom Tanzania, the Minister for Planning and Investment, Professor Kitila Mkumbo, stated that the Vision places a strong emphasis on the use of digital technology. This includes increased access to and use of smartphones, as well as partnerships between the government and the private sector to achieve a digital economy.
“The government has laid out strategic plans to increase the adoption of technology and ensure more citizens utilize digital services. This will contribute significantly to the development of a modern, knowledge-based, and innovation-driven economy,” said Prof. Mkumbo.

On her part, Vodacom’s Head of Media and Communications, Ms. Aneth Kanora, explained that the SGE Report focuses on three core pillars: Planet, People, and Transparency. She noted that the report highlights Vodacom’s contribution to technological advancement in Tanzania and how digital innovation can help drive the implementation of Vision 2050.
Several development stakeholders who participated in the event, including Gabriel Bundala and Catherine Kimambo, emphasized the vital role of the communications sector in achieving the goals of the 2050 Vision.
They commended Vodacom for its efforts to expand digital connectivity and support the country’s socio-economic development.
