Tanzania insists on regular dialogue to boost public, private sectors’ business

DAR ES SALAAM: TANZANIA has insisted on the establishment of regular dialogue between the public and private sectors, saying it is a critical pillar for business growth and investment as it is a strong foundation for good governance, people-centered leadership, and sustainable development.

This was stated by the Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Ambassador Mahmoud Thabit Kombo, during the opening of a high-level meeting between the East African Business Council (EABC) executives and the Secretary General of the East African Community (EAC), held in Dar es Salaam.

Minister Kombo emphasized the importance of such meetings in identifying the challenges facing the private sector and proposing practical strategies to boost business, enhance competitiveness, and unlock opportunities for entrepreneurs in Tanzania and across the East African Community.

He further urged the meeting to address the contribution of key sectors such as agriculture, manufacturing, transport, and cross-border trade, which have faced various barriers hindering their growth, particularly affecting small and medium enterprises (SMEs), which he described as the most vulnerable to such challenges.

The Minister noted that non-tariff barriers (NTBs) remain a major impediment to the aspirations of the EAC to fully capitalize on the opportunities envisioned by its founders, particularly the creation of a large common market that allows for free movement of goods, services, and capital. These freedoms are crucial to positioning the EAC as a leading region for trade and investment.

Minister Kombo concluded his speech by assuring the public that the Government of Tanzania, under the leadership of President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, is fully committed to implementing policies aimed at improving the business environment, promoting competitiveness, and ensuring inclusive economic growth within the region.
