Tanzania insists on free services to pregnant women, warns those who charge them

DODOMA: THE Tanzanian government has insisted it offers free delivery services to pregnant women and children countrywide and warned against charging money to those groups, saying it is unacceptable.

The Deputy Minister for Health, Dr Florence Samizi, made the statement at the Parliament in Dodoma today, February 3, 2026, when responding to a question from Ukonga MP, Bakari Shingo, who sought to know the government’s plan in dealing with those going against the policy by charging treatment money from pregnant women and children of under five years old.

Elaborating, the deputy minister noted that health services for all pregnant women and children of that age are free according to the health policy of 2007.

Additionally, he said that the policy also includes elderly people who are above 60 years who can’t afford treatment.
