Tanzania hosts SADC Police Chiefs meeting with call to uphold peace

DAR ES SALAAM: The Minister for Home Affairs, Innocent Bashungwa, has called on Tanzanian media to continue working closely with the government in educating and reminding Tanzanians about the value of peace and security an important legacy left by the founders of the Tanzanian nation.

Speaking to the press after officially opening the meeting of Police Chiefs from the Southern African Development Community (SADC), held at the Julius Nyerere International Convention Centre (JNICC) in Dar es Salaam, Bashungwa emphasized the vital role of the media in delivering messages that promote national unity and stability.

“I continue to urge you to cooperate with the government in reminding Tanzanians that peace is a treasured legacy from our nation’s founders, and the responsibility of protecting our country lies with every citizen,” said Bashungwa.

He also stressed the importance of investigative journalism in exposing the potential dangers of losing peace, using real-life examples from countries that have been affected by political and social conflicts.

Bashungwa added that safeguarding the nation requires every citizen to act with patriotism, unity, and calmness to ensure that Tanzania remains a peaceful haven among African nations.

In the same event, the Minister expressed gratitude to the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, for her continued efforts to empower security agencies particularly the police force to effectively protect people and their property.
