Tanzania envisions the successful implementation of Vision 2050

DAR ES SALAAM: TANZANIA has officially launched an awareness and sensitization campaign for the Vision 2050 to educate the masses before the country starts its implementation in the 2026/2027 financial year.

Speaking today in Dar es Salaam during a training for journalists coordinated by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in collaboration with the Planning Commission, Deputy Representative and officer in charge UNFPA, Melissa McNeil-Barrett said journalists have a great ability to create narratives, amplify citizens’ voices, and keep the community on accurate information, which is important in transforming the vision into a living reality for citizens.

“You can also help ensure accountability so that Vision 2050 is not just a national framework, but a shared reality for everyone. This debate provides us with an opportunity to increase understanding of the Vision’s goals and roadmap for its implementation and learn how the media can engage citizens creatively through traditional and digital platforms,” She explained.

She also said that the training will promote collaboration between the government, development partners, and the media to ensure public understanding continues to be robust and recognize the contribution of stakeholders.

She said they should clarify the complex language of policies and turn it into simple and inspiring stories for all Tanzanians and showcase the opportunities offered by TDV 2050 for society and especially the youth.

“Hold us accountable for the steps we have taken while celebrating successes along the way and using your platforms to encourage every citizen to see their role in the implementation and achievement of the Vision’s goals,” She noted.

She added, “The media will encourage citizen participation, and ensure that every Tanzanian from the big city to the remotest village from Kigoma to Zanzibar understands and feels like an owner of this Vision.

For his part, the Deputy Executive Secretary – National Planning – National Planning Commission, Mursali Milanzi, said that preparing a vision is one thing and implementation is another, and urged journalists to be able to convey information to citizens and other stakeholders to prepare citizens for the implementation of the vision.

“The implementation of this vision will officially begin in the 2026/2027 financial year. Before we get there, it is good to prepare various stakeholders for the implementation of the new vision.

He said that they have trained journalists on the content of the vision to see that it has foundations, goals, and targets by 2050.

“There are three pillars of the vision, namely the economy, human development, and environmental issues and climate change. We have discussed how various factors drive the implementation of the vision.

“We have also discussed how the government has put in place implementation and monitoring systems, management systems and accountability systems that will be managed by the planning commission,” Milanzi stressed.

He also said that they will continue to collaborate with journalists to provide education so that every Tanzanian citizen can contribute.
