Tanzania deploys 594 ambulances to boost emergency medical services

DODOMA: THE Tanzanian government has deployed 594 ambulances to health facilities across all councils in the country as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen emergency medical services and improve access to healthcare.
The Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office for Regional Administration and Local Government (PMO-RALG) responsible for Health, Dr Jafar Seif, announced this to lawmakers in Dodoma on today, February 3, 2026, noting that additional vehicles are expected to be allocated to health centres as they become available from the Ministry of Health.
The minister was responding to questions from Members of Parliament regarding challenges facing some health facilities in the country due to a shortage of service providers, particularly nurses and doctors.

Meanwhile, the minister instructed all medical doctors who have been recruited to report to their stations as soon as possible.
Additionally, he said that the government has recruited about 5,000 new medical doctors, and some of them have already begun working at their various stations.
