Tanzania, Chinese firm agree to construct medical equipment factory

DODOMA: THE Tanzanian government has affirmed its determination to open more doors for investment in pharmaceutical and medical equipment industries so as to increase the production of health products and expand the market inside and outside Tanzania.
This confirmation was revealed by the Minister for Health, Mohamed Mchengerwa, in Dodoma, when he met with the leadership of the Shandong Hongyu Medical Technology Group from China, who presented their intention to invest in a pharmaceutical and medical equipment factory in the country.
Minister Mchengerwa said the Tanzanian President, Dr Samia Suluhu Hassan, has insisted on seeing investment in such industries increasing and investors are given priority in the process of investing and gaining markets.
“If they are really determined to invest 500m US dollars, the government cannot abandon this investment. We will measure their seriousness and commitment through the applications they will bring.

He added, “I direct the Chief Pharmacist and the Permanent Secretary to sit with these investors, give them the government guidelines and ensure that they leave here with the certainty that the Government is determined to do business with them and provide them with domestic and foreign markets, if they are able to produce at the required level. This matter should be completed today.
In addition, he stressed that there is no reason to stop investors who meet the criteria, because construction land and markets are available, so the Government will continue to welcome them to stimulate economic growth and increase the availability of health products easily.
“When they go to build factories, the councils will receive income from taxes. Therefore, investors in health product industries should be welcomed and given space. If Tanzanians come, it is better, but even if they come from abroad, we will welcome them,” he stressed.
