Tanzania cherishes women’s participation in the mining chain

GEITA: THE Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Minerals, Msafiri Mbibo, has said that the government, through the Ministry, is proud of the great step taken by increasing the participation of women in the entire mining chain, a step that demonstrates the Government’s commitment to promoting gender equality in this important sector for the national economy.

He said this today at the Geita Mining Technology Exhibition, while speaking to the Tanzania Women Miners Association (TAWOMA),

Mbibo said women are increasingly participating not only in small-scale mining, but also in business, value addition, technology, and providing services in the Mining Sector.

“We are currently seeing major changes. Women are participating in all aspects of the mining chain, from mines to markets. The Ministry of Minerals is proud to be a good example of gender equality in the country,” said Mbibo.

In addition, Mbibo added that the Government continues to create an enabling environment that includes licensing, access to mining areas, and professional training, measures that enable women to participate effectively alongside men.

“We cannot leave a large group of citizens behind. Women have a significant contribution to bring about reforms in the mining sector, and the Ministry will continue to stand shoulder to shoulder with them,” Mbibo stressed.

For her part, TAWOMA Secretary General, Salma Ernest, said that the ongoing steps taken by the Government have been a catalyst for success for many women who were lacking opportunities in the sector.

She stressed that the Government, through the Ministry of Minerals, has continued to prioritize women by providing them with mining blocks and helping them obtain professional education.

“The increase in the number of women in the mining sector not only benefits them personally, but also contributes to the well-being of the family and society as a whole,” said Salma.

With the increasing number of women in the Mining Sector, Tanzania is better positioned to develop an inclusive and equitable economy, with the concept of “Mining is Life and Wealth” finding practical application.
