Tanzania cherishes vocational training as a key to youth’s self-employment
DODOMA: THE Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, the Prime Minister’s Office, Regional Administration and Local Government and the President’s Office for Youth Development met and held a joint discussion on strategies for strengthening collaboration in empowering Tanzanian youth to access education, skills, and employment opportunities.
The meeting held in Dodoma today, December 11, 2025, was led by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, Prof Carolyne Nombo together with the Permanent Secretary in the President’s Office for Youth Development, Jenifa Omolo.
In their talks, the leaders discussed ways to ensure that youth receive accurate information about educational opportunities and are empowered to meet the demands of the job market and contribute to the country’s economic growth.

Speaking at the meeting, Prof Nombo stated that the 2014 Education and Training Policy, 2023 Edition, along with the revised curricula, continues to prepare Tanzanian youth with the skills needed in the world of work.
According to the Professor, the policy provides opportunities for all youth, including drop outs to return and access education through both formal and non-formal systems, including the IPOSA program.
Additionally, Prof Nombo said that the government continues to expand opportunities in technical and vocational training, education loans, and scholarships through the Samia Scholarship, in order to widen access for youth to gain education and skills.
The Permanent Secretary in the President’s Office for Youth Development, Jenifa Omolo, commended the Ministry of Education for introducing many programs aimed at empowering youth to be self-reliant and competitive in the job market noting that the programs are essential in promoting youth participation in the national economy.
In the meeting, the leaders agreed to enhance access to information on various opportunities for youth, mobilize financial resources to fund specialized training, and coordinate programs that will link youth with industries for practical training.
