Tanzania: Call for Expression of Interest for investors in pharmaceutical, medical devices

DAR ES SALAAM: THE Minister for Health, Mohamed Mchengerwa, has directed that within 21 days, the Ministry, through the Department of Pharmaceutical Services and the Office of the Chief Government Pharmacist, in collaboration with the Tanzania Medicines and Medical Devices Authority (TMDA) should prepare a Call for Expression of Interest to attract investors in pharmaceutical and medical devices manufacturing.
The minister gave the directives in Dar es Salaam noting that the move aims to attract investment in local pharmaceutical and medical-device industries in order to increase domestic production and reduce dependency on imported products.

He instructed them to prepare a Call for Expression of Interest and outline clearly the areas where they can collaborate in drug manufacturing, while also welcoming investors to establish more pharmaceutical and medical-device factories in the country.
According to the minister, investing in pharmaceutical industries within the country will help the government to easily oversee the quality of locally produced products for the safety of Tanzanians.
Moreover, he said that it will also reduce the significant costs spent on importing health commodities.
