Tanzania beckons Spanish firms to invest in agriculture, mining, energy, and ICT

DAR ES SALAAM: THE Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Cosato Chumi, has revealed that many Spanish companies have expressed interest in investing in Tanzania, citing that is an indication of the growing strength of economic and investment relations between the two countries.
He made the statement during the celebration of Spain’s National Day in Dar es Salaam, noting that the companies are eyeing to invest in the sectors of agriculture, mining, energy, ICT, and infrastructure.
In his speech, Mr Chumi stated that Tanzania values the long-standing friendship and cooperation between the two countries for the benefit of their people.
Elaborating, he said that within the over 58-year relationship between Tanzania and Spain, Spain has been a key development partner in the sectors of health, water, rural electrification, and agribusiness, which have been essential in making the partnership an important pillar for promoting sustainable development.
Commenting on collaborative projects, the Deputy Minister cited the Msimbazi River Restoration Project in Dar es Salaam, implemented jointly by the government of Tanzania, the World Bank, and the government of Spain, as a clear example of shared commitment to improving the environment and the well-being of Tanzanian citizens.
He further mentioned the success of the Tanzania–Spain Business and Investment Forum held in July 2025 in Seville, Spain, which was attended by Tanzania’s Vice President, Dr. Philip Mpango, noting that the forum has opened a new chapter in economic cooperation between the two countries.
Moreover, Mr Chumi applauded the celebrations, saying that it provides an opportunity to commemorate not only Spain’s history and culture but also the enduring friendship between Tanzania and Spain while reaffirming Tanzanians’ commitment to strengthening the cooperation for the mutual benefit of both nations.
On behalf of the Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, he also conveyed congratulatory messages from President Samia Suluhu Hassan to the government and people of the Kingdom of Spain.
In addition, Mr Chumi recognized Spain’s global contribution to the tourism sector and noted that Tanzania is expanding cooperation in this area. He invited Ambassador Paloma Robles to use her blog and photography to promote Tanzania’s tourist attractions, saying she could be an excellent tourism ambassador for the country.
For her part, the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Spain to Tanzania, Paloma Robles, reaffirmed the commitment of the Spanish government to strengthening diplomatic, economic, and social relations with Tanzania.
The Spanish envoy noted that Spain recognizes Tanzania’s contribution to peace and development in Africa.
