Tanzania banks on Institute of Marine Sciences to reach the Blue Economy goal

ZANZIBAR: THE Tanzanian government has reaffirmed its commitment to reforming education, science, research and innovation as a strategy to build a strong and sustainable economy.
President Samia Suluhu Hassan made the statement during the inauguration of the Academic and Administration Building of the Institute of Marine Sciences Zanzibar, a constituent institute of the University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM–MSI) noting that the institute is a key stakeholder in supporting government efforts to build a competitive and inclusive economy.
The Head of State further commended the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology for effectively overseeing the implementation of the Higher Education for Economic Transformation (HEET) Project, saying it has delivered positive results.
She further called on youth in the country to make good use of the available opportunities to pursue education and acquire relevant skills.

Moreover, she also commended the UDSM leaders and staff for completing the project on time and with efficiency as well as thanking the World Bank for its continued partnership with the government in implementing the HEET Project.
However, President Samia called on lecturers and researchers to strengthen collaboration with the private sector to accelerate development, while encouraging students to study hard and become ambassadors and custodians of the country’s marine resources.
