Tanzania Airports’ body decorated for innovation, environmental safety

LUSAKA: THE Tanzania Airports Authority (TAA) has been awarded two accolades, presented to Julius Nyerere International Airport (JNIA) in Dar es Salaam and Kilimanjaro International Airport (KIA) for innovation and sustainable environmental development at the airports.
Information released by the authority on Thursday noted that the recognition is also for the solid steps taken by the two airports in reducing environmental impacts, as part of the global aviation industry’s response to climate change challenges.

The awards were presented by the Airports Council International (ACI) and handed over to TAA and the Council’s President, Emanuel Chaves, together with Secretary General, Ali Tounsi, during a gala dinner held at Ciela Resort in Lusaka, Zambia.

Speaking shortly after receiving the awards on behalf of TAA’s Director General, the Director of Msalato Airport, Clemence Jingu, stated that the award marks an important beginning for the Authority in implementing strategies to address climate change.
Additionally, he said that the authority has already identified various sources of environmental pollution and is now preparing robust strategies to mitigate the impacts, in line with the Net Zero Agenda by 2050.
“We will continue collaborating with our stakeholders, particularly airlines, to ensure a unified approach in environmental protection efforts and the same will be done to all other airports in the country,” he said.
The world is currently making major joint efforts to protect the environment and the well-being of future generations, with the aviation sector playing a significant role in setting an example through sustainable strategies to reduce carbon emissions.
