DAR ES SALAAM: Tanzania’s national soccer team, Taifa Stars, has joined Uganda and DR Congo as East African representatives after qualifying for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
A second-half goal scored by striker Simon Msuva secured Tanzania’s place in the tournament, which will be hosted in Morocco.
Msuva headed home a powerful goal in the 61st minute after receiving a precise pass from Mudathir Yahya Abbas, ensuring the Taifa Stars qualified for Africa’s most prestigious football competition for the fourth time.
Following this crucial win, Tanzania climbed to second place in Group H with 10 points, trailing DR Congo, which leads the group with 12 points.
The victory brought immense joy to the nation. A draw in the match would have allowed Guinea to secure their qualification, as they needed either a win or a draw to advance. However, Guinea dropped to third place with nine points.
